love this forum and have saved a ton of money doing repairs at home. I have a 1998 blazer LT 4x4 with 4.3 V6 and noticed wetness coming from top of weephole of factory waterpump (114,000 miles). Called local service shop and got a quote of $350.00 to install new one. Went to advance auto and bought new pump for 52 dollars. Gonna replace it myself and would like anyones advice about the correct way to insure against leaks where pump mates to engine. Should i use the gaskets provided or just use blue permatex or a combination of both to get it right the first time. ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!! THANKS XRAY TECH

Can't really go wrong with this job, the bolts pull it up tight so the gaskets will do the job fine. Just clean the surfaces good. Beware of the blue Felpro gaskets on this though, they will squeeze our in short order, but I doubt the replacement pump had this type gaskets with it.

I replaced my pump 3 weeks ago and didn’t use the gaskets that came with the new pump. I made sure that the area where it bolts to the block was clean before I used some black RV sealant. I torque'd it to specs and allowed it to set for about 30 minutes. I not suggesting to avoid using gaskets, but I didn’t find them necessary for my 98 LT (not to mention it was a pain to keep them in place). No leaks as of today. Good luck!

Use Blazee Walk Through and I would use the gasket and the Red gasket sealer. I found that the Red lasts longer then the blue.

When I did mide I used both sealer and the gaskets. Hardest part of the job is getting the fan off, the special tool for it makes it a dream but I didn't have the tool to do it so I had to struggle with a pipe wrench and breaker bar to hold it.
