Distributer issues

1999 Blazer ZR2. I was replacing the cap and the rotor tonight, i put the new cap on and was tightening the new cap down and the plastic snapped where the cap retaining screw threads into the distributer. Half of the distributer is metal and the other half has a plastic cover/mtg bracket that goes on there. the plastic piece is the part im talking about. Do i have to get a new distributer or is there a way to get that plastic part out? The piece that the rotor mounts on would obvously need removed... how? and once that is off do i just unplug the wiring harness and remove the plastic piece and hope that the dealer has a replacement for it? Th :banghead: anks :banghead: :banghead: :gives:

More than likely if you snapped the ear on the distributor you will have to get a new dist..

Don't you just hate it when you break those ears. Do they make a after market that isn't made with plastic?

I'm not sure this is a good idea, but i took JB stick weld and made my own "ear" Im then going to drill and tap a hole and make sure the surface is level to the cap and see if it holds up. If it saves me 100.00, i'm in good shape. I'll let you all know how it works out.

NO NO no There is an easy very good fix. I did same thing when repairing manifold. I thought I was gonna have 2 buy a new dist. But I improvised. JB WELD IT. Seriously. But you will have to remove the dist from ur truck. Put cap on distributor screw good side place screw in broken side as it would be if not broken. Mix up JB apply to broken area. !st clean area real good. let cure. back screw out good as new. Mine is perfect screw grabbed and tightened nicely. Give it a try.
