305 in 240sx??? Part 2(You have been Warned)

I took a trip to the Nissan forums and not only is everyone ignoring me, I read a thread where they said they never wanted to here about the LS1 swap or chevy V8s again in a nissan thread.

I'm making more enemies and I haven't even decided to do anything yet. Plus, I'm about to make everyone mad here too( maybe by saying that, you won't get mad and will just throw me out without a beating)

I don't hate camaros, I just hate that I bought a camaro, since it costs too much to fix, and I'm considering my options, like a v8 240sx...*stays low*

The funny thing here is that I always said to myself, I wouldn't mix car companies, let alone countries, ever since my friend in college told me to not put a big block into a hyundai tiburon :uhoh: But I actually think this is a good idea. It's a great sound, it handles better, and It's a fun project where I can focus on one car. BUT i haven't decided to do it, mostly because everyone gets mad at me(nissan and chevy forums) I'm indecisive also.

Is there a custom forum on AF where the mods know everything about cars and no one flames which company is better? Thanks (P.S. I love this forum, I swear, you guys are the biggest post whores ever)

That car is gonna look like a ballpark pretzel. Those unibodys weren't made for that kind of torque. :screwy:

I came about a frog hair away from buying a Z setup up for a small block, I constantly kick myself for not buying it.

If you think about it, the car handles a pickup truck engine's torque fine and it handles more torque than most japanese sport coupes..what's the point of arguing? I already have one!

What's a Z setup?

I had a friend in the late 80s who asked me to help install a 350 into a '75 280z. Did that, plus an M22 rock crusher - aside from getting my right wrist nearly broken from the shifter during an upshift with a failed synchro, that car was really fun to drive. The rear-end on it was very strong and handled the 320-hp level of the 350 just fine. One thing I really liked about that setup is aside from custom exhaust leading to the rams-horn style exhaust manifolds we installed on it, that engine bay must have been designed with the 350 in mind - the mounts lined up, could get to all 8 spark plugs painlessly, and the distributor was a cool 3" from the firewall. It fit in there like a glove. All we had to do was take the top half of the old style Chevy mounts and weld them to the bottom halfs of the Z mounts. There was even about 3" of clearance between the fan and the radiator. We fabricated a crossmember for the transmission.

Brings back many pleasant memories. Took it down to Firebird Raceway and got 11.32 @ 105 mph at the traps. That car turned many a head.

That's hot but that's still a datsun zx right? I'm talking about the early 90's nissan 240sx. Still that was a great vid, did he drive into traffic? love that sound!

Put in a heavy ass v8 in the engine bay and see if the 240's handling is still as good as you think it is

*the LT1 has a milled/flat look to the top of the intake manifold where the LS1 has a tubular look..

*figured i would get both pics with the corvette fuel rail covers to show it like in the video

I wouldn't go for a 305... go for an LS1/LT1 or at least a carbed 350ci gen1 motor.

And btw an LS1 isn't all that much heavier than the 240SX engines that are typically swapped in like the SR20DET.

I have so much to post..where to start, 97CamaroRS, i'm not attacking your car, but think about it, doesn't a 4th gen handle better than a third gen Iroc-Z? The other thing is the nissan guys told me I could get carbon fiber parts on the front to lower the weight, and that's if it's an iron block. The LS1, like flatlander said is almost as light as the popular SR20 Turbo 4 cylinder.

Update, the NISSAN guys told me to use a different v8 ROFL, maybe the same time as you guys did. If my 305 is dead already, then yeah i'll buy something a lot nicer but I trying to use what I ahve to work with.

As for the Iroc-Z, if I plan to do this, I won't get rid of it unless someone wants it, and it would be hard to sell it again with too many modifications. The front end has had it, soon I think I might take off the axle and clean it, to see if I can still use it, but you probably would need to replace that to. Brakes, yes they definitely need replacing LOL.

That leaves the motor, which still runs, badly..but If I fixed it up, cleaned it out, gave it new internals, you think it would still suck as much as a 305? ...btw, don't the v6 guys envy us v8ers, you'd think there would be more support for the little v8 that could...i'm gonna check out flats link now

Pfft... it ceased production in 92...

It can be done, but a 350 is more realistic. You're better off saving for something else. I'd say LT1 at the least. LS1 if possible.

I have a 90 240sx im swaping a rover 215v8 aka (buick/olds 215) and 5 spd trans. it was origanly going in a 72 510. But after picking up a theft recovory 240 for 250$ ive alterd my plans. the 215 is 40 lbs lighter than the 510 4 cyl. and with the ported heads roller rockers/ isky cam /and eldebrock intake its around 300 hp. i had a 240z with 400 sbc i converted and it was great even with the turbo 350. but i love the stk wish u luck but try somthing other than a 305 you would be far better off:smokin:

This thread is two years old. Please don't bring up old thread. If you would like to make a new thread and post a link to the old one, that would be ok.

Thanks
