I've heard that Daimler-Chrysler has made significant improvements to the transmissions in the Dodge Caravans. Can anyone provide me with a lead to this info? I'm thinking about buying a 2003 Caravan, but have had many tranny problems with my current 1995 Caravan. Should I go with the Nissan Quest instead?

A transmission mechanic told me that about 9 out of 10 failures of the Caravan transmissions are caused from someone putting the wrong fluid in them, as they only use Mopar Fluid (ATF+4 for 2003) and not many shops or autoparts stores carry it. I've put over 170,000 miles (combined) on Caravans that I owned. I've only had 1 issue and that turned out to be a (leaving out name) service center putting Dextron/Mercron fluid in it because they didn't carry ATF+4. I found this out after I bought a used Caravan and the trans started slipping about 10 days after I bought it. I found a receipt in it from the last service and called them. Turns out that the previous owner had it serviced two days (transmission flush and fill) before trading it in to the dealer I bought it from. I immediatly changed the fluid and all has been well ever since.
