The square plug is there for a reason. It is so you cant plug the wrong one in :P.
So heres the dealie.
The computer in the car is basically what tells it to shift gears. With the origional transmission being a 3 speed, the computer will only recognize it as a 3 speed transmission, and only shift until it reaches 3rd gear (which means you will not get to 4th). In order to fix that, you must replace the computer with one that uses a 4 speed transmission.
