I have an 89 S-10 4-cylinder carbureted . Its badged as a 4.3 V6 but when I got the truck it had the 4-cylinder in it so I am unsure on the size.(2.5?)

Anyway, my problem was that I was driving home and my truck starting running rough and progressively got worse within a minute or so to the point where I could not accelerate then my truck died. I then started it again and it ran really rough and died(still not responding to throttle at this point) I then let the truck sit about 10min, started it up fine, drove 1/4 mile and the exact same thing happened. Since then I have come back to the truck and started it and ran fine for about 30sec; I was able to rev it and seemed smooth. Then it started running rough again and then killed itself once again.

The guy at advanced auto parts said it could be ignition module heating up causing the problem.

I did replace the the starter about 100 miles before this happened but I don't really see how this has anything to do with it.(old starter wasn't always engaging)

Ideas?

There is no 4.0l carbed GM engine? Any fuel squirting out of the carb accel pump jets when it won't start, any spark to the plugs, lots of info here wrong/missing. All 89 S-10 Blazers with either engine, 2.8 or 4.3, were fuel injected.

thats what i thought, too. how many tips on you distributer cap(not counting the center one). 4 tips on the outside means 4 cylinder, 6 tips means 6 cylinder. speaking of caps, have you done a tune up latly? cap, rotor, plugs, wires, both air and fuel filter? check fuel pressurre and check for vacuum leaks as well.
