I just don't agree with the context that people use it in. Yes, the SRT-4 is a trim level of the Neon line. However, people say it is just a Neon as an insult with the assumtion that it is a Neon with a turbo. My point is that the SRT-4 isn't the same car as a Neon.

You can't just buy a base model Neon, slap a turbo on, and call it an SRT-4. I just don't agree with the it's still just a "insert car here" bullshit.

I once told a story that summed this up.....

[So, last thursday there was an unusual amount of people hanging out with modified cars. So I pulled into one of the local spots practically unnoticed..got out of my car..and walked up to the group and just listened for a bit. Well, there was a guy there talking alll kinds of shit about SRT-4s. Saying they're "gay", "for fags", and that "they're just neons." So I listened to him talk a bit more to try to get more information. After another 5 minutes of him spouting off stupidity about how SRT-4s are slow neons..I notice him lean on a volkswagen golf GTI..I believe it was a 1.8t. So, I said to him "Is that your golf?" And he replied "Yes, it is." It looked stock to me..so I decided to humour myself and ask him what he had done to it. He shyed away from the question. So then he asked me what I drive. So I said "I drive a bonestock dodge neon." He made a face that to me signified disgust. So I said "Would you like to race it?" and he said "I was just about to ask you the samething." So we walk over to my car and he says "Hey! That's not a neon, that's an SRT-4!"]

i think the impreza/wrx difference and the lancer/evo difference is on a whole different level than neon/srt4

Ehh, I dunno.

The biggest one to have a change would be the Lancer/EVO. The Lancer is a FWD shitbox stock, but becomes a 4WD turbo monster in EVO form.

Neither the Impreza nor the Neon go through a drivetrain change to become their alteregos.

All the mechanical bits are different as is the suspension. There aren't many parts that will interchange between the two. Especially the ACR version.

SS, SRT, SVT, etc., etc. etc. are all just option packages you select on a base vehicle.

I'll even go to the extreme here and say my car, while completely modified, with the only stock parts being the body hull, is still just a Chevrolet Vega.
