I have a 1992 Ford Explorer V-6 4x4 4-door with air and automatic transmission.
I bought it during the summer. Didn't seem like it had any problems except for a slow shift from reverse to drive. (When I backed out of the driveway). This morning was about 25 degrees when the fam & I started out......The same slow shift to drive.......But when I got to the first 3 stop signs, after a complete stop, I would give it a little gas. The tranny acted like it was out of gear and then would engage and go. I do not notice any problem when the vehicle gets warmed up. The tranny fluid is full.
Any ideas from anyone ?

Your transmission is going out.
They are known for this problem. I had a 1992 myself and mine did the exact same thing.
But I kept on driving it untill it completly went out.
I would not suggest you doing this. It will cost you more in the end.
They had to replace the whole transmission core.
If you can get it in now they can rebuild it for much less.
It cost me about 2500 for it.
