OK boys& Grils! I have replaced every possible thing on this heap of a blazer to get it to run again and now a 0440 code is coming up. How do I check for vacuum leaks with out a smoker?

Check your hoses on the charcoal cannister by the rear bumper- driver side. It could also be a leak in your gas lines, or where the lines connect at the tank or fuel filter.

If your Gas cap is not on tight enough, you will also get a CODE 0440. Check gas your cap, then clear the code by pulling the battery cable for 5mins, then reconnect and drive it, I'll bet you don't see that code anymore. I just did this to my son in law's 97 two weeks ago. It cleared up...

You didn't mention what you all replaced in your OP, so.....
I will add to what I said above if the gas cap doesn't solve the problem.
When I re-installed my fuel pump, a pinch clip on the feed line was worn out, and it caused a slight leak.
Do you smell raw gas?

Ok here is the list of replacements:

(3) Fuel Pumps - last one was a GM
(1) Fuel pump plug - Should have done this on the first pump!
(1) Alternator
(1) radiator
(1) wiper modual
(1) front differntial
(1) Fuel pump relay
(1) serpenteen belt & pully that still squeels
(1) Battery
(1) Ignition switch
(1) Oxygen sensor
(4) New shocks
(1) New gas cap

Could this problem be related to the CPI and nut kit thing that everyone is putting pictures up for? My milage is about 21 mpg and I don't smell any gas so I didn't think it would be that? It runs like crap and the light is on and those are my only symptoms. I will try and look at the canister tonight.

Are you overfilling your tank?

Do you fill it right to the top?

I fill it until the pump handle clicks when it runs long enough to go through a tank? The gas gage has never gone passed 1/2 full with any of the pumps so I run by the odometer.

First off you have a bad fuel sending unit.

Second, you should inspect your charcoal canister and make sure it doesn't have any fuel in it. Just pull the hoses out and see if any dribbles out. Check to see if you cap is the proper cap and not some generic cap for any car.

Come on BlazerLT give me some credit! I did get the correct cap for the year and make. Thanks for the info. I have it at my friends shop and he is putting the smoke to it today so we shall see what we get. Why would the sending unit give me a 0440 code?

Easy there, don't need to get all bent out of shape!

I never did anything that warranted you to snap back at me.

Well it was the actuator after the charcoal canister. All light are out and now were on to fixing the differntial. Thanks for the in-put folks! If I can give one piece of advice from this entire mess that I have fought through it would be not to buy a 96-99 Blazer! If you do buy one when you replace the fuel pump put in a wire harness for it! With the $ I have in this thing now it better run for two years problem free! Back to my FORD trucks from here on out!

Oooooofffphhhhhh! (Low BLow)

Let the fun begin. I'm an original owner of my '97, it's got 45,000 miles now.

The ECM just crapped out 3 weeks ago. So at 9 years old now(bought in Oct. 96), a lot of the miscellaneous stuff has been replaced. I'm hoping for 8 to 9 more years of trouble free driving.
