Replacing Crankshaft Position Sensor???

After all the posts calling for a bad/broken Crankshaft Position Sensor with a "Cranking, but No-Start" condition, I decided to jack up my Riv and crawl underneath for a better view of the CSP. I found that the Middle vane was broken off down to a 1/16", but no apparent damage to the interrupter blades other than mild surface abrasion.

Is it possible to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor without removing the Harmonic Balancer? I ask this because the nearest parts stores are over 65 miles away, so borrowing a install tool is not really an option since I don't have a way to get there. Plus I really need to get this car back up and running ASAP.

No. It has to come off.

Ok. Then can the Balancer be re-installed without the $360 tool? I not that worried about needing the tool to align the vanes since I've had to do much trickier alignments, but is it absolutely necessary for getting the balancer back on?

the harmonic balaner removal tool doesnt cost 360.00.. i just bought a lisle brand one from the snap on guy a few months agao for 37.00 w/ tax

the balancer has to come off to remove the sensor

to reinstall: oil up the shaft make sure its lined up properly and carefully zip it on w/ an air gun

Thanks, but I wasn't talking about the Removal Tool, I have a puller. I'm talking about the "Installation" tool (GM# J-37089-B). So far, the lowest price I've found online is $360. Way more than I can afford to spend for a one-time job. The closest place to me that has one to lend is 2-1/2 hours away unfortunately. And they don't UPS tools for loan.

run it up w/ the bolt, i have put at least 12 of these on w/ no problems, just make certain that the keyway is lined up and the shaft is lubed up good
