What does a "Brakes" light on my dash mean?

A double circle icon titled BRAKES came on my dash. What does it mean? :rolleyes:

one of two things, ether the parking brake is on or you are low on brake fluid. low brake fluid is ether caused by a leak or worn pads/rotors
