i have changed the fuel pump on my '88 Nissan PU, twice. The first time, it just died and there was no restarting, and that was that. I had it towed and changed the fuel pump in my apt parking lot . So probably just drop the tank and change it. But since it runs, run it out of fuel first, if you can! Siphoning gets old fast lemme tell you. :banghead:

The only other thing i can think is unless you havent changed your fuel filter in a billion miles and its clogged.

I've had the same problem with the same truck for years. It's gotten progressively worse. Have tried so many things and noticed so many symptoms it is maddening. Everytime it seems to be pinned down something different confuses me.

Lately when it won't start I hit it with some starting fluid and it fires up for a few seconds. No fuel huh? Well during that few seconds when I hit the gas it revs up. So it's getting fuel and spark. After doing this for a while it may or may not finally catch. Maybe it will catch a few hours or days later. It has a mind of its own!

I'd be happy to tell you more about this situation and the confusion it induces. Any advice would be much appreciated.

first check fusibale links and battery cable as well as terminal ends.
also check the wires to the starter...

if you know you are getting spark and at intial start up it is getting fuel ,i will suggest you check the fuel tank for sediment that may be getting sucked up into the strainer thus clooging the fuel pump intake and cutting fuel supply.

then when the truck dies most of the sediment falls out ..
