Hey guys I have a 91 blazer tahoe v6. The rear pass side axel seal is leaking oil into the drum. How big of a job is this to do.Is this something you replace both even if the other side is fine? Now that gear oil has gotten into the drum, do I have to replace anything in there?

I have a honda civic, and Cbr. I do pretty much all the work to them. Nothing huge though.

The brakes I'm not worried about, but I really havent messed around with axels to much. I would hate to be that "guy" that has it towed into the shop taken apart. Plus Its nice to save the money and do it yourself.

Any help your suggestions would great. The book is kinda Black and white if you know what I mean. Thanks.

Not real difficult. Remove the pumpkin cover and drain the fluid, remove the 8mm bolt holding the slide pin in place, remove pin, push axel in, pull c-clip, pull axel. Using a seal puller (or screw driver) pull the seal. At this time though you might as well do both sides (an extra 5 mins).

Install new seal using a socket of the same size and tap it back down...install all in reverse... Refill diff. All in all it will take a 1st timer an hour or so.

Take a close look at the axle shaft..sometimes the seal will cut a groove in the shaft and this will cause a leak..if so, the axle shaft will have to be replced also.

Good point! Though personally I don't see that happen often...Though you probably do...
