hard starting

my blazer has had a hard time starting the last few days, where when i fire it up, the RPMs drop below 500 and then it kind of shudders and stalls. this happens a few times until i have to rev it up after starting, just long enough for it not too stall. is my bad devil simply in need of a tune-up?

[154k miles, 97 LT 4X4 - last tune up was at 135k miles]

List Exactly what was done on your last tune up.
What kind of spark plugs did you use and what was the gap on em.

Howdy I had the same issue with my blazer last year it turned out to be a corroded coil wire. you might give that a check. Don

i didn't do the tune-up. i purchased it last may at 138k miles and the tune-up was done at 135. Fuel and air filter are getting changed tomorrow along with changing the oil.

Do you have proof as to what was fone during the tuneup when you bought it?

Not all tuneups are the same. Some people think an oil change is a tuneup item.

Another thing to check is the condition of all your vac hoses. This can cause low or high idle and stalling. Check them all for dryrot/cracks/holes. Replace as necessary. Check the connection at the vaccume ball and make sure the ball itself has no cracks. Replace hoses as needed...Hell, at 10cents a foot it's not expensive.

checked that. all looks square. however, i did replace the fuel filter and the air filter today and my rough starting, shuddering, low idling, seems to have been solved.

To BlazeLT, yeah there was documentation of new spark plugs, wires, car, rotor, and pcv but not for fuel filter so who knows. maybe that wasnt replaced sometime and this could have been long overdue.

anyhow, thanks guys, hopefully problems fixed! :)

Awesome, yea, the fuel filter should be replaced anyways.

Also, an air filter might not hurt.

yeah, i replaced the air filter too. both that and fuel filter were Purolator brands. decent, right? i have heard the advantages of a K&N airfilter, but didn't feel like dropping that much money with all the other expenses i had yesterday. :iceslolan

Purolator are completely fine, I really respect their quality and workmanship. Better than Fram any day.
