1. An alignment.
Too much toe out can cause a wander.
2. Adjust or rebuild the steering box.
It seems most Ford steering boxes seem to have built - in steering play. Sometimes it can be improved by adjusting the screw and jam nut on the steering box. Some delicate trial and error is required here ; it's easy to overtighten the box and damage it, or let a professional shop do it.
3. Rebuild the front suspension and steering,
Chances are a good alignment shop will tell you if the front end components are loose/worn, like tie rod ends, drag link, pitman arm, king pins/ball joints, bushings etc.

Thanks for the info. I took it to an alignment shop and my outer tie rod ends had some play - I have just replaced those and now taking back for the alignment. We'll see what happens. thanks again. Any advice on shocks?? This is a 15 pass van and I'm trying to find a better ride.
