Security light

I have a 1999 suburban and have an intermittent problem with the security system built into the vehicle. It is not a factory alarm but supposed to ensure that the correct key is in the ignition. Sometimes when I try to start the vehicle the security light is flashing which means (according to the manual) that it thinks the correct key is not in the ignition. The truck will start but only run for a second before shutting off the fuel.

This vehicle had an aftermarket alarm system with remote start. The remote start has to by-pass the security circuitry and "fool" it into thinking the key is in the ignition. The electronics for the alarm and remote has been removed, but the wiring has not. It is my understanding that the "bypass" circuitry is t-ed into the wiring and not cut and spliced.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this problem, it would be most appreciated.

Hi. I had the same problem with my 2000 sub. I would be driving and all of a sudden the light would come on. Other times, I would try to start it and nothing would happen. There is a wire in the steering column that must be tapped into for the remote starter to work. Remove the plastic trim under the dash below the steering column. Then remove the metal plate behind it. Look at all the wires. You should find a yellow wire (If I remember correctly ) that has been tapped into. This is the wire for the security passlock. If the remote starter has been removed, it is important that the spot were the insulation was cut be covered. If this is able to come into contact with any ground it will give the passlock a bad code. Tape the whole wire up, because it also rubs on the metal plate if you use the tilt steering alot. Hope this helps. Took me a long time and numerous remote starters to find this simple problem. :screwy:
