whobbling/thumping noisekmlayton 10-13-2005, 03:22 PM I have a whobbling/thumping noise somewhere in the front of my car. I especially notice it in parking lots going slow. I asked a mechanic about it and he thought it may be something to do with a tire. I don't believe that is it, because I replaced my two front tires about a month ago. I do sometimes feel a small vibration in the accelerator and my steering teters (not shake) left and right a little when I let go of the steering wheel while in motion like on the highway. Any thoughts? bad alignment? loose ball joint? bearing going bad? KimMG 10-13-2005, 06:50 PM something loose or worn in the suspension? yotermanic 10-13-2005, 07:16 PM The first thing to come to my mind when you list your symptoms is wheelbearings. They'll cause most of those symptoms. I wouldn't rule out tires, though just because they're new doesn't always mean good. You may have a loose cord that wasn't fully seated when the tire was manufactured. I'd try rotating the tires before anything else. Good luck with it. 68convert 10-16-2005, 12:17 PM I had a 77 Cutlass that had a similar problem. I just put new tires on the front end and had it aligned. It shook, wobbled, shimmied, and thumped at all speeds. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I checked the suspension, bearings, and every thing else I could think of. Finally took it to my mechanic and found out it was a broken cord in the right front. I had the tire replaced and it solved the problem. Tony vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
