'98 Rodeo trans holds 1st and 2nd gear when cold KJK 10-11-2005, 08:43 PM
The vehicle has always done this and I've never seen it addressed. It's a '98 with the 6 cylinder and 4 wheel drive. When the vehicle is cold, at part throttle, the automatic transmission will not shift until the rpm hits about 2800. This occurs in first and second gear. It won't upshift if you let up on the throttle either. It only does this for the first 1/2 mile or so and then it shifts normally. Summer or winter it's the same. The dealer says it's normal and that it's warming up but I've never had another vehicle do this and it's kind of annoying. Ramblin Fever 10-11-2005, 09:20 PM Mine's the same way! Good and strong for 145k now - but her tranny is of the cold blooded sorts. Actually I've heard, somewhere, that these trucks were designed that way to assist in warming up the engine?? surferfletch 10-11-2005, 11:37 PM Same here. Just warming up. 240speed 10-14-2005, 05:47 PM I have a 99 rodeo and mine does the same thing. I thought there was something wrong but good to know this is a common thing.
