I have a 92 isuzu rodeo with calipers that have one bolt on the bottom and instead of having another bolt up top there is a rod that lets the whole caliper pivot.

The pads were worn down very low and now there is no room for the new thicker pads.... is there some way to move the caliper back into place?

Its catching on the outside pad and yes I decompressed it.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Do i need any type of special tools???

ANY AND ALL REPLIES ARE APPRECIATED!!

The first thing I would check is to see if I have the correct pads?

Sounds to me like you need to push the piston back in. A large c-clamp is good for this. You will also need to remove some brake fluid from the master cylinder or it will overflow.

yeah i decompressed the piston. It's catching on the outside brake pad about a centimeter.

I assume this is happening on both wheels.
Are the caliper/pad right against the rotor on the side that isn't catching? If you have the caliper piston fully compressed, then the caliper may not be sliding on the guide pin (since a centimeter sounds like about how much your old pads [combined] would have worn). You may need to use some PB Blaster to free up the caliper.

hmmm that sound like it may be it, its like the caliper moved inwards to compensate for the old pads wearing down, but i cant get the caliper to move away from the truck to fit the new pads.... and oh yeah what pb blaster??

Very likely considering that's how disc brakes work. The caliper piston pushes on the inner pad and the outer part of the caliper body pushes on the outer pad. As the pads wear the caliper slides inward along the guide pins.
