Turns off on turns

I had a '96 Cavi and now I have a '03 Cavi and I've had the same problem...when I make a sharp turn (like when I'm backing out of a parking stall) the car shuts off. The radio, gages, lights, etc. all stay on (they don't even flicker) but the gas pedal, brakes and steering turn off. Anyone know why? The other day I was driving home the same way I always do from work and there are some sharp "S" turns I can usually take pretty fast, but this time my car shut off! It was scary. I just popped it into neutral and restarted it...
Anyway, just wondering why it does this. Thanks!

try not cranking the steering wheel all the way. sounds like the enging is stalling from the stress of the power steering pump. turn it all the way and then turn it back a little bit, also you proablby come out real slow so the engine revs drop too far i would imagine. tyr just not using as much steering
