HELP!!!
ok fellow geo owners, My tracker is a 94', and it has been in michigan all of its life, until now, i just moved to texas. THe problem is the rust has gotten to the reil that the door hing mounts too, now when i open the door it falls a good inch, it is no longer on its original bolts, the welded bolt on the other side of the rail has rusted off.

My question is: do they make an after market quick door release hing kind of like what the jeeps have that i can mount instead of my standard hinges.

Please if you have any links to something like this , let me know.

Desprite. I don't even have the fender on the car, because i am constently trying to remount the hing.

Thanks
KRis

I had the same problem. I welded a metal plate onto the body, and I just bolted on a new hinge. Sprayed it black to match the body. It worked for me. It has very slight rubbing when I close the door slowly.

thanks for the imput, i was affraid that was going to be my option, How thick of a plate did you use, and what did you do to use thread the new plate, and did it have any effect on the alignment of the door.

well guess what? I found a friend in school, who happens to be getting a welder this weekend, and happens to live in the same apartment complex as me. She is going to weld the door on for me tomarrow.... YEah, and if it doesn't work, please still email if you have any suggestions.

my girlfriends 94 did the same thing, only it wasnt rusted, just where the door hinge connects inside the door area there it just started splitting and the door literally just about fell off, it probably dropped about 5" over time and almost came completely off. A body shop guy welded it back on, then painted it and it has been good ever since. Im glad to see this is a somewhat common problem, I was thinking maybe the car had been wrecked at one point..

Well, i have just about exhausted every mechanical hardware fix i can think of, so i went to see a body shop about welding it on. He didn't seem to think that the sheet metal on the frame would be strong enough to weld the door hing too. Is this true? Will i need to have a plate or somthing welded on to fix this problem?

I found a welder today that did it for 25 dollars, wewho, i don't have to get out the passanger side anymore.
So far the weld is holding, and the door works perfactally. thanks for all the help
