Mazda 3?YodaGeek 10-10-2005, 06:46 PM Hi, I may be getting a Mazda 3 and was wondering how much potential these cars have. I would eventually like to get it to run right around the 14 second flat mark. Would it be possible? What do you guys think about this car? Thanks. shnailpower 10-10-2005, 06:53 PM potential? Gohan Ryu 10-10-2005, 07:16 PM Every car has potential to be a 14 second car - it depends on how much modding you're willing to do. I don't know too much about the Mazda 3 but looking at the stock specs I'd guess it'll take more than the standard bolt-ons to get to 14 flat. You'll have to build the internals (pistons, cams etc...) or go turbo to be that quick. TheStang00 10-10-2005, 07:20 PM its got the 2.3 duratec right? those are good motors. -The Stig- 10-10-2005, 07:47 PM I drove one back in 2003, at Mazda RevItup. Where you get to test drive all the new vehicles in a autoX environment. I was stuck in an automatic Mazda3, and I was highly unimpressed by it's performance. The tranny lags with the throttle, there's a good 2 second delay from when you hit the gas to when the motor makes noise. The motor really was rather gutless, made more noise than it did horsepower. But, I did find the seats and interior nice. And if I was in the market for a daily commuter. I'd consider a Mazda3. Comfy car with a bit of pep... just not enough to be sporty in my opinion. I didn't wait in line to drive a 5 speed, didn't see the point really. But I'm sure the 5 speeds are much much more responsive. On another note, I really really enjoyed driving the Mazda MPV minivan around some cones... all that body roll... ass end loved to sway. ;) Andydg 10-10-2005, 09:25 PM I didn't wait in line to drive a 5 speed, didn't see the point really. But I'm sure the 5 speeds are much much more responsive. You're right the 5 speed is pretty damned responsive. My manager at work has a new Mazda3 and it's a pretty decent commuter car, it looks good, nice interior, has decent power, and good gas mileage. YodaGeek 10-11-2005, 08:00 PM Okay, thanks. I may get one and try to stick a turbo on it. It seems like it has a decent aftermarket... -The Stig- 10-11-2005, 08:15 PM Good luck to ya. Polygon 10-11-2005, 08:21 PM I don't think there is a turbo kit for those is there? If not you're going to have to make your own kit. Good luck to you, not my first choice for an N/A sport compact to work on, but certainly not the worst. YodaGeek 10-11-2005, 10:09 PM Check out Mazda3Forums.com under the FI section. There seems to be a growing aftermarket for customs as their are quite a few people with a turbo on there. BP2K2Max 10-12-2005, 06:15 PM isn't the upcoming mazadaspeed 6 powered by the same motor but turbo-charged. i'm sure there'll be something coming soon from MazdaSpeed if there isn't already one avalable. clawhammer 10-12-2005, 07:25 PM isn't the upcoming mazadaspeed 6 powered by the same motor but turbo-charged. i'm sure there'll be something coming soon from MazdaSpeed if there isn't already one avalable. Yeah, the Mazdaspeed 3 will probably be powered by the same AWD 276 bhp turbo 4 that power the Mazda 6. Just wait for that. Probably already a 14 second car, with more potential, since it's factory turbochared. drftk1d 10-12-2005, 08:53 PM Yeah, the Mazdaspeed 3 will probably be powered by the same AWD 276 bhp turbo 4 that power the Mazda 6. If you can trust Raz_Kaz tho, I mean the dude races fork trucks.. clawhammer 10-12-2005, 10:20 PM afaik, the mazdaspeed version of the 3 will me fwd. id cop the speed 6. From http://motortrend.com/future/spied/112_2007fvf/index7.html 2007 Mazda 3: MazdaSpeed3 performance edition will likely bundle AWD and a 2.3L/270-hp turbo I-4. TheStang00 10-12-2005, 11:17 PM if there isnt a turbo for that motor yet there will be soon, its getting put into a lot of vehicles now including the focus. Raz_Kaz 10-13-2005, 02:26 AM Supposedly Hiboost has a turbo kit giving out 300 hp. If you can trust Raz_Kaz tho, I mean the dude races fork trucks.. I smite the for thy doubts!!! I was maybe a couple digits off with the 300 but it's still damn impressive!! http://www.hiboost.com/kitmmazda3.htm The same kit can now be applied to the 6i, 2.3L inline 4 cyl.The results for the 6 are 10 whp less though.
