'93 Grand Cherokee. Quirky alarm system. No key fob.

1. Need to replace battery/alternator. Will this render the vehicle useless because of the quirky alarm system?

2. Can I get a new key fob at the dealer without the vehicle? (It's in LA; I'm in TN.)

Thanks for the help!

disconecting the battery is a normal operation for maintence , on my 94, when i reconect the battery , the lights flash till i use the key in the drivers door to reset them, it also generates a error code 1 2 i believe , that goes away after 50 restarts , the key fob can be found on line , sometimes at E bay, and sometimes at dealers , I found that I had to keep the batteries out of the fob , and in the glove box till needed , as when i carried it in my pocket , the buttons would sometimes be activated when sitting down and drain the batteries , especially when needed most to reset the system, had to get towed once because of it , as the car wouldnt start without reseting the alarm sys..that was my lesson learned .hope that helps

You can get a new key and key fob at the dealer but you will need the VIN # to get it programmed...and most likely a form of identification and ownership of the vehicle. Chrysler has an exclusive data base of skim and other security codes.
