Daughter called and said her car 1997 blaxer ls 4x4 would not start and could not get the key out. Blazer had to be jumped started and car started. and all is fine. Does this sound like a ignition problem or a battery problem?

thanks

Think we need mroe info. 2 or 4 door? Automatic or Manual. Honestly sounds like a battery possible alternator but the key getting stuck seems odd. Did they key come out after it was jumped???

Its a 4dr auto 4x4 and yes the key did come out. I thought I read in the forum at one time that the key not coming out is a sign of the ignition sw being bad when it did not start. I could be wrong. Gonna try a battery first

thanks for the reply

The key won't come out if the battery is dead/disconnected.

I'd probably try a different battery first before replacing the switch.
(If you have a spare battery, it took me 1.5 hrs to replace the switch)
Indications of the switch being bad;
1) no dash lights when the key is on. Engine cranks,doesn't run. No fuel pump humming (priming)
2) with key on, can't shift the tranny out of park.
3) with key on, check voltage at top of fuse 24 (tranny), if voltage is
there, it's not the switch.

Hi everyone.I've just joined the forum a few minutes ago thought,introduce myself, 65retired and see if someone has the answer to why key will not come out of cylinder.My first exsperiance was when the battery died about 3 months ago,then when the ign. harness went bad. Same problems everybody else had.After replacing harness,key would not come out of cylinder unless manually released. Hooked up lock solenoid to battery and it works . Right now I have it disconnected . Can someone please explain how this devise is suppose to fuction.
Thank You Very Much
