Hello all.

I recently replaced the head gasket and had the heads machined and new valves and seals put in, now the car stars but it pops and makes other weird sounds also the exaust seems to be getting red hot, as well as there is a smell of gas in the oil.

Does the head needs to be brouhg to TDC?

Any sugestions..?

Thanks.

sounds like a misfire, who did this work?, check for the wires being crossed or not properly connected to the plugs, very vague descriptioon of the history/problem. You need on the spot help here if you are not familiar with diagnosing this type problem. any check engine lites, all the injectors reconnected securely and in proper sequence?

It sounds like the camshaft timing is off. I would place the motor @ TDC and check where the cam sprocket(s) are. Keep in mind that if it appears to be WAY off, turn the crank another full because it could be on the wrong stroke. But make sure that the cam(s) line up the way they are supposed to with the crankshaft @ TDC.

The car over heated once and blew the gasket, thats why i replaced it, i had a machine shop do the resurface and the valve job, but when i installed it i had to tork the rocker bolts.

Its a 3800 V6 there is no cam sprocket, does any one have the firing order?.

Thanks alot for all your replys.

Oh sorry, I guess I wasn't paying attention, I was thinking it was an OHC motor. Check the ignition timing.

Sorry, I don't have the firing order here at my house.

Should be 165432, but you need to know where they are on the coil pak. Looking at the coil pak from front, l/s coil is 6/3, middle 2/5, r/s 4/1
