my dad has a 97 grand cherokee laredo 4.0. the driver info center keeps saying "rear lamp failure" but there are no rear failures. there are like 2 marker lights out in front. would that set it off and if so, why would it say rear failure? thanks in advance

Does your dad have a Brake light in the "Rear Windowof it" If it does see if it's working or burnt out!!!!!

Yes the fornt side markers would cause the REAR LAMP FAILURE MESSAGE.

Recheck all the lights during the night when it's dark it will be easier to locate a bad bulb. I had one of my Center High Mount stop light out and it caused this message, took me about a month before I find it. The LAMP OUTAGE MODULE is connected to all rear light (except headlights) and it gicess a signal tot he VIC telling it that the lights are out and this is why the REAR LAMP FAILURE message is displayed, it doesn't differentiate between the front and rear. I also had the message display again for the last 6-7 months my front side markers were out as well, but replacing the bulbs did not help, I am still trying to find a solution.

Also make sure you use the right bulbs, altho some bulbs look the same (2057 and the 1157) they give off different amperage and the module wil think the lights are out, displaying the message.

great thanks for the info. it has had rear lamp failures in the recent past but currently all of the rear lamps are working including the high mount. in front there is one marker light out on each side. we have tried to get the lights out but have been unsuccessful. i have the right bulbs so i'll try again soon.
