mystery sound

when i drive a kind of clicking sound comes from the front drivers side of my car, the faster i drive the faster the clicking, but as soon as i put my foot on the brakes it goes away anyone have any suggestions to what it could be?

this might sound slightly retarded but, check for any rocks in you'r tires.

haha will do but i think the problem is something more, i should also add since i just found out at speeds of 110km + the sound turns from a clicking to a kind of scraping/ very very minute squeal. couldve been another car beside me on the highway home, but think it was my car

If you have the stock wheels it could be the plastic hub caps.

I scraped mine on a few curbs and now it makes a clicking noise and the faster I go the worse it gets.

yeah but i cant see myself scraping my driver side hubcap on anything cuz i never park on the wrong side of the road, and its not my passenger cuz i blew a tire last nite and put my donut on and it still does it, plus when i engage the brakes it stops, even if i push them lightly

I've seen similar symptoms with a loose caliper and a slightly warped rotor. The rotor would push the caliper bracket back and forth slight as it made the clicking sound, but as the brakes were applied, it put enough pressure on the loose bolts that they didn't click.

thanx both of you guys lol i had a feeling it might be my brakes, cuz i did rush putting that side one *beats head off desk* guess it wasnt worth rushing after all, lol and if that doesnt solve it then ill check the cv joint which was my second guess that or a tierod, but whatever lol my rotor is warped though cuz my old brake pads had wear like this // instead of || ill let you know if that fixes it

sounds like hammer on steel...
slow down to 80 or so and noise is totally gone...

front drivers side wheel area the wife tells me.. Is there any chance that the wheel was taken off the car recently like say for flat repair or something. I had a new wheel bearing installed on left front ,drove the car for two days and some wild sounds started coming from same area. took it back to garage ,find out that the wheel was loose . I watched the mech torque the wheel nuts two days earlier but I guess there was a bit of rust on rotor surface and it let go and as a result the wheel started to work loose. Just a thought

check for a chip from the brake. i dont think it would be rocks because my bro was stupid enough to drive his celebrity into a thing of rocks that were flattened a day befor and got stuck and he gets a grining noise ever since. might be rock in hubcap.

sounds like the warning clip for the pads.

it's a brake pad. I would bank on it! do you have any pulsation when braking? or when your lightly braking going down hill do you have a lot of pulsation or shaking on the steering wheel? if so this would indicate a bad rotor or a bad tie rod end. anyhow, most shops do free inspections, at least they do around here. get it looked at. let me know!

i had the brakes done last year... and one of teh pads came apart....
then the wife got talked into new rotors/calipers/pads...

i guess there is a chance ....
snowing like a mad man right now... gonna look at it tomorrow :)

Had a friend with a problem that sounds allot like yours.It was missing the rubber bushing that goes around one of the caliper mount bolts.Cheap and easy to fix.This was on a Grand Am but I think your setup is similar.

well i feel stupid now...

took my car to the shop...
and it turns out that there wasn't a problem at all...
i guess at a certain speed my block heater cord would get caught by the wind and spin around and hit the fender :(

but atleast i know now... hope this might help someone else someday!
