I hope someone can help. I read the following from another forum and could someone explain how I can accomplish the same? I am having the same exact problem. Here is a copy
I have the same problem So I changed the following items. Spark plugs, wires, and Distributor Cap and Rotor. I gain more power when accelrating but still had rough idle and hesitation on accelaration. The shop manual suggest checking the water temperature sensor and the EGR gas temperaure sensor when I fined the list of possible causes I will posted it for you. I put a 14 k resistor into the EGR gas temperature sensor plug to simulate the sensor and make the ECU think the sensor was good. This took care of the hesitation on accelaration but still have rough idle. When update when i fix it
.

What is a 14k resistor and where is the gas temp sensor located? Thanks for any help. Jaz C

It's probably a 14 kilo ohm resistor, you should be able to get one at any electronic supply place.

And the EGR temp sensor is screwed into the EGR line just below the valve.

you might want to check the egr valve its self to make sure that it is not stuck open. you can run a vacumm pump to the egr and start applying vacumm to the valve slowly with the engine running. if it doesnt seem to make a differnce then the valve could be stuck open. i just ran into the same problem on my 95 4runner and replaced the egr valve and egr vacumm modulator and it took care of the rough idle and hesitation
