96 3.2L Knock Sensorunderbird10 10-03-2005, 08:49 PM Anyone have a clue where the knock sensor is on a '96 3.2? I have a Chilton's on CD but it doesn't list a knock sensor on the engine control diagram. Thanks. php 10-04-2005, 08:43 AM I have been looking thru my Chilton's manual to help you out and came up with a couple of questions for you. Do you have a Rodeo or a Tropper? Do you have a SOHC or a DOHC engine? Looking at the wiring diagrams in the Chilton's manual, I only see a knock sensor on a Tropper, 3.2L DOHC engine. Don't know if this will help, just throwing it out there. underbird10 10-04-2005, 09:52 AM The '96 is a Rodeo. 2WD. SOHC Pinging like a mad-man. Decarboned using sea foam and throttle and choke cleaner. Everything looks clean, all the way out the tail-pipe. New EGR. Still pinging. I have some ODBII software which shows me a timing advance of 19.5-20 degrees at idle and from 30-42degrees on acceleration. I would assume a knock sensor would retard the timing slightly if the pinging was present, but I can't find the sensor. php 10-04-2005, 10:01 AM Have you checked for vacuum leaks? or may the MAP sensor? According to my chilton's manual Low MAP output voltage=more spark advance High MAP output voltage=less spark advance MAP sensor is basically measuring vacuum underbird10 10-04-2005, 10:09 AM Thanks php, good info. I'll check it out when I get home today. I am not throwing any DC's for bad sensor readings, but the software plots and graphs most all the sensors at idle and while driving, so I should be able to tell if the MAP is doing it's job. No vacuum leaks that I can detect. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
