Theft display light blinking

We just bought a 2001 Windstar LX yesterday. Today the theft light has been blinking. It blinks after we turn the engine off.

Is this supposed to happen? We're worried it may drain the battery. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i think this is normal. on our 03 Windstar it also blinks when not running an also on our 03 Escape. :smile:

The theft light is supposed to blink when the ignition is off to illustrate that it is active and perhaps to act as a deterent for would be thieves.

Ford's got the blinking light on all of their newer vehicles weather they have factory alarms or not. It's purpose is to act as a theft deterent.
