i have a 96 cavalier, 2.2L, i was thinking about doing exhaust but i donno, later i plan on putting a 2.2l or a 2.4l ecotec engine in (depending on which has a better aftermarket and since the 2.4l just came out win the newer cobolts it shouldnt be to long before the aftermarket opens up for it) but right now i wanna try to open it up and let it run a lil easier.

i was wondering with the exhaust will it be possible to re use the cat back on the new engine? i wont be doing a header back as that will have to change with the new engine.

also cold air intakes, is / would it be possible to re use a CAI with the new engine? i was planning on getting a funtional SS hood but i think i will need a diffent CAI to work with the hood.

any ideas on this? i wanna do some mods but i dont wanna have to re buy everything for the new engine. any suggestions?

I doubt any parts will work on both engines. The 2.2 OHV has the exhaust bumper side whereas the ecotecs have the exhaust firewall side. I think swapping in an ecotec would be a lot of fuckin around when you could just buy one. They started in 02 right? I bet you could get a good ecotec cavy for less than swapping an ecotec in your current car.

im not sure when they started but im also not trying to sell my car for one with an ecotec in it. also i dont see how exhaust being on the other side will cause problems, just gotta keep it away from heat sensitive stuff.

Well, the intake would have to go almost to the firewall for an engine with the intake on the firewall side whereas if the intake were on the bumper side it would probably be shorter and bent different. Not sure about the exhaust, but I wouldnt count on it.

Yeah the ecotec started in 02. My friend has an ecotec 02. I also would say don't count on being able to reuse stuff from the 2.2 OHV.

intake. no chance, exhaist. with some modification then yes to a cat-back header back. nope, not without losing a scetion. ecotec swap, don't bother. you'll be in the whole so much more than buying an ecotec car! and you wont have the problems!
