99 windstar a/c, cruise, and now fan wont shut off

I just bought a 99 windstar LX 2 days ago, the cruise isn't working, or the a/c, and sometimes apparantly the rear left vent. I've never had a ford prior and have heard of some probs. with the late 90's and early 00's, but I figured I'm up for the challenge.

Anyhow I noticed a large fuse under the hood was blown and decided this must be the a/c or cruise, went to the parts store today, put in the fuse, started up the van and the fan is going steady, drove it for a couple minutes and its still going hard, pulled the PAL fuse and it stopped.

Looks like now I need to worry about more than the other 2, are these vans electrical time bombs???

Would sure appreciate anyone who knows a common fix for either cruise, a/c or the fan running constant. (I will check the relay for the fan as soon as I get a book to figure out which is which)

What fan are you talking about?

the rad cooler fan

Hello

Is the AC on when your testing the rad cooling fan? If so, the fan is to run when the AC is on.

the a/c switch isnt on when testing ,(the actual a/c isn't working at all) , but i did discover on another forum that their are two other relay's aside from the set in the relay and fuse box in the engine compartment that control the fans. My guess is that one of the relays is cooked, the fan is stuck on high speed and maybe the pcm wants the fan to be on low? I will try the a/c with the fan fuse in and see if i get a/c, then I need only to find the fix for the fan, hopefully just the relay.

Sure would be nice if that was all!!!! Let me know if you agree with my theory.

(Also found out that the cruise is affected often on these by the contacts loosening or moving under the horn pad, something else to check out I guess)

There are two special relays that power the radiator fan motor on the '99. The relays are in a covered enclosure mounted (underhood) on the front left wheel inner-house. ... not too far from the brake master cylinder. These relays are different sizes ... and different from all other relays in the vehicle ... a design hold-over from earlier year models, I think.

About $20 for the pair at your friendly Ford dealer. If he's not "friendly", they may be a bit more.

perfect, I did get a/c when I popped the pal fuse in and fan runs on high, so switching the fan relay/s may do the trick. Thanks for the help
