i notice that temp guage is rising and checked the fan motor and found that it is burned up... i replace fan motor and coolant temperature sensor.

when i start up the car and the fan start for a few sec then stopped... if i turn the a/c on then the fan starts running. when heater on it wont run.

what am i missing the necessary to replace.... what position of temp guage stay above or below. my shows around 1/4 inch over the middle of c - h meter

hard to explain since it dont have temp number on it.

The fan will only kick on when the coolant goes beyond a certain temperature. I can't tell you what that is off the top of my head but I would guess probably around 220 or maybe a little more. Your thermostat probably opens around 195 so the 195-220 range is the "ideal" operating temperature. If the airflow driving around the city is sufficient to cool the radiator, your fan may not turn on. I know in the late fall/winter/early spring when the air temps are cooler, my Montana minivan's fans never kick on unless I idle for a looonnng time.

When you turn the AC on, you need to draw additional air through the condenser coils to cool the refridgerant. That's why it runs when the AC is on.

cdru,

you are right. i took the car to chevrolet service and they says my fan actually came on around 220 degrees. and told me that the car is desgined to have fan come on that degrees.

know what sucks? the code i mentioned above is actually a old code stored in history. a man cleared the history then do the diagnosis and found no problem. whew lucky i didnt have to pay them 60 dollars for a hr of diagnosis.

i asked wheter i have some recalls on my car and they replaced something to do with ignition switch.

guess i should get a service and repair book for the car so i d understand how that and other system works.

thank you cdru for reply even with right answer :)
