rear tie rod replacement on 93 pa.????

okay after they stole me park ave they tore up all kinds of stuff on her. but one thing at a time... the tie rod on the rear axle is bent and the wheel is bent in to a degree that makes it a danger to drive.. there is a nut on one end, but the other end is all covered by some sort of rubber bushing.. a new rod is only about 30 bucks. but how do i get this thing off.. is there a nut and bolt in that bushing? what should i be doing to replace this?? :confused: :screwy:

It comes off just like the front tie rods do.

Remove the castle nut, pound a pickle fork into the ball stud and it will drop down. Loosen the nut on the other end, count the number of rotations before it comes out and install the new one using the same number of rotations. This will put you in the ballpark as far as alignment goes, until you can get a 4-wheel alignment.

wow that was fast!.. sounds great but i had to google what a pickle fork is.. so the fact that i have never taken off a tie rod of anykind is easy to guess. but im not afraid of much so this will be no different.. many thanks for the quick reply kok328. hey one more thing, is there a certain size pickle fork i should get? yeah im dumb but i like to be prepared.

You'll need a pickle fork with about 3/4 - 1" of spread. Better yet, when you go to buy the new tie rod, ask them for a pickle for that will fit the new tie rod.
