My 94 B250 van had this very strong burning smell. I investigate and it was coming from the front driver tire area. The tire was good and I just had the brakes replace.

I was told it could be the ball barrens, could this be true?

and if it is the ball barrens, can anyone advise me on how to fix this problem?

You all are the best, I had alot of help from this web site.

I am station in Germany and trully appreciate this.

God Bless to you and God Bless the USA...

i dunno how the ball bearings will be burning after a brake pad replacement...

take it back to the guy who replaced the pads... mebbe he didn't lube the caliper pins & they are sticking to the rotor... glazing the rotor & pads...

or the caliper is seized-- piston rusted?

Sounds like when the caliper was compressed to install the new pads it is now hanging up. See Dodge used a bakalite piston in their caliper and they are known for doing this after so many miles, The fix is to replace the whole caliper and hopefully it hasn't already burt your new pads up.
If it were indeed the wheel bearings you would hear a growling noise as you drive and it would change pitch as you go through a curve. To check the wheel bearings and the caliper just jack that side up and spin the tire it should spin freely then have a buddy push the brake pedal a couple times and as he lets up try to spin it again. If at any point the tire doesn't spin freely the caliper is hanging so replace it. while your spinning the tire listen for any odd growling sounds from the wheel then grab the top of the tire with one hand and the bottom with the other and try to rock it, If you feel any movement the wheel bearings need attention.
Hope this is of help !

I would take it back, but it was a German auto shop that fixed it and they to me didn't do a good job.

Here in Germany, I have been ripped off alot by this German auto shop.

We are kind of at their mercy when coming to fix our car.

Believe me, us Americans get totally ripped off here in Germany when come to the rent, auto vehicles and so forth.

I hope they close all the bases here in Germany and move us to either Italy, Poland and other places that helped us.
