I am thinking about buying a 98 S70 T5 with 88K miles for about $8500. I have never owned a Volvo before and not sure what to look for. Is this a good price and are there certian things I should be looking for on this car?

Can you tell me how long you keep your cars. Volvos are expensive to service, and they have qite a few glitches. Not for the faint hearted!

Watch out for oil leaks from around the turbo area. I just bought a '98 T-5 with 97K miles and it's in great shape, runs like raped ape and the steering and suspension are nice and tight. But, it started leaking oil the second day I had it, one shop told me it was the Turbo (about $1,800), then I took it to the local dealer and they told me it's the rear main oil seal ($1,150 + tax). They have to remove the tranny and flywheel to change it, ouch. They said the airflow under the car caries the oil up on to the turbo and oil lines so most people think it's the turbo.

As I was informed the breather or PCV Valve gets clogged and forces the oil out usually through the main seal or the cam shaft seals. My breather was clean, so they think the previuos owner dicovered the leak and did the breather job for about $200 and still had the oil leak and decided to trade the car for a Lexus instead of fixing the crank seal. I have a 50/50 warranty from the dealer I bought it from but I'm not sure if the seal will be covered. I still love the car, had a couple of '89s I bought new and went almost 200K on them.

The other thing to check is if and when the timing belt was replaced. You typically do it around 100K and put a new water pump and serpentine belt on at the same time.

Like I said mine has 97k on it and steering is super tight the struts are still good the exhaust has very little rust. And I live in Cleveland,OH.
