ABS/Brake light comes on when I go over speed bumps

Problem started last week. The ABS light will go on when I go over speed bumps. It doesn't go on until I'm actually going over the bump and have already laid off the brake. The ABS light will come on and stay on, but the brake light will just flash while going over the bump.

This usually happens at the same speed bumps on the same road, but just once it has happened at another time on another speed bump, and one other time the light came on but I don't think I was going over a speed bump.

Any thoughts?

Got word from spouse that the light does indeed come on at times when brakes are applied hard. (This is a '96, btw.)

Neglected to mention that we had a similar issue with the brakes ABS light about a year and a half ago. It was a problem for a few months, seemed to increase, then stopped altogether.

Thanks

Do a search on this forum for ABS. There are some good threads on this.

Just a word here though, the ABS light is probably coming on because of the rear wheel sensors getting rusty/dirty or rear wheel bearings out of adjustment, and the brake light is coming on because of one or more of the following reasons: the psi is uneaqual in the front and rear brake systems, your parking brake lever is bouncing up on the speed bump, your brake fluid is low in the master cylinder.

How many miles on the van? When was the last time you had brake work done?

Regards

Top up your fluid , that should take care of the lights. Check all your brakes, as the fluid does drop when your brakes wear down. Also check for brake fluid leaks.

Thanks for the tips! The search turned up great results. More enough to get started. Thanks again.
