How do you go about removing this assembly from the drivers door? Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, If no volunteers come forward on motor/regulator replacement can someone explain just the motor replacement, if possible. I went ahead and pulled the old motor out of the regulator and was hoping to just stick a new motor into the old regulator. The old motor came out nice and easy but the new motor will not go back in no matter how many different ways i try. There is a swivel bushing/seat in the very top of the regulator casing which is supposed to accept the end of the armature/worm gear shaft and i supect there is a problem getting it aligned so that the shaft will go back in. Otherwise, one would think that if something comes out it must go back in but so far that has not been the case. If anyone knows how to do this please help. When I try tapping the switch the motor just gets hung up and the armature/commutator just pulls itself out of the motor case/magnet assembly. The motor goes back together easily but that hasnt worked to get the motor/worm gear back engaged with the spur gear...I have also tried pulling the window up manually while holding the motor in position to see if the spur gear will pull he worm gear into the casing but this has not worked either....Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Chuck

Hi Chuck.
When I replaced my pass window motor, I had no problems. It sounds like your trying to take apart the new motor assembly and just replace the motor portion , Very hard to do when the gear is still in the door. I read your description a few times and realized you are taking the window motor apart in the door. You shouldn't have to play with the armature and stuff in the process. It is very hard to reassemble a motor on the bench let alone while still in the door.
When I hear you say regulator, I pictured the "big gear in the door" .
To replace the complete motor assembly you will have to drill 3 holes into the inner steel door panel to access the 3 bolts holding the window motor in. ( not the 2 torx headed screws ) . The locations of the holes to be drilled are marked by dimples on the panel. Then remove the 3 bolts. unhook the connector and install the motor assembly. you may have to wiggle the motor a bit to align with the window regulator gear but it shouldn't be hard.
Do a search in this thread using the title " window motor" and you will find more info including pictures. .

thanks for the reply Cougarman. It prolly sounds like i am trying to disassemble the motor but i am not. Actually what i was trying to do was replace the motor without trying to replace the entire motor/regulator assembly. I was trying to do this becuase I did a search and found a thread on this forum where a guy had removed the two torx bolts and removed just the motor (there are even nice pictures) from the regulator assembly. I did that but cannot get the new motor back into the old regulator assembly. The motor is simply coming apart when i try to use voltage and the switch to pull it back into engagement with the spur gear. I am reassembling the motor, but not while its still in the door . Furthermore, now i have a new motor removed from the new regulator assembly but cant get that reassembleed either. I cant figure out how the guy in that thread got the old motor back into the regulator assembly. Maybe just got lucky.

If i drill out the inner door panel enough to access those three bolts and remove them, isnt there a counter spring in there which holds the window glass up that i need to be concerned about and if so would you know how I go about securing it before I remove the regulator?

Thanks,

Chuck

I did this job on both of my doors on my 95 Windstar. It's tight working in those doors. I was able to clean/lube my motors and get them working. I had to work with them to get them back together. Not a fun job, but do able. One of the doors I took the gear box off along with the motor. The second door I just took off the motor. I know it's tough getting the shaft back into the motor. I fought with it for a while. New motors are between 60.00 and 80.00. If this is your fist go around with doors and motors you will have a learning curve.

I never had any problems with countersprings. just put a piece of wood under window to hold it partway up to give you more room to work.
When the new motor and gear assembly is installed , remove the wood.
Of course you will have to reassemble your new motor/gear assembly on the bench 1st which takes some time and patience.
Good Luck,
Jeff

Okay thanks for the replies Jeff and Lesabre. I will see what I can do. I would agree with the "learning curve" comment. I will just place a block under the window and see if i cn remove the old regulator.

Thanks again
