D15 Bottom D16 HeadCREXSI 09-21-2005, 03:30 PM Does anyone here know if a D16 Head will fit on a D15 Block? I was told it would but im not sure if I belive it or not. Someone confirm the truth lxndr 09-21-2005, 04:16 PM What year, which D15/D16? For example, the D16a1, D16A6, and D16Y8 motors all have different heads. The only other head that will fit on the 84-87 D15A3/EW motor is a DOHC D16A1 head which is called a Hydra swap. You will however have to construct your own bracket for the timing belt tensioner pulley. This swap is for people who are up to a challenge and don't want to bother swapping the whole D16A1 motor. I have the 87 D15A1 FI I have the SI CRX so is that different from the D15/EW CREXSI 09-21-2005, 05:07 PM The Engine is a D15A1 In the Si Model lxndr 09-21-2005, 05:59 PM Where does it say D15A1? The '87 SI came with a D15A3. Either way, except for the 1300cc, the stock engine blocks for any 84-87 Civic/CRX are all the same. The EWx designation was changed to D15xx in '87, the Honda D-series motor changed completely in '88, and Acura changed from D-series to B-series in '90. Basically what this means is that if you've got the stock SI motor in your car, no '88+ Honda D-series head will fit on your motor. impalanut 12-19-2005, 10:45 AM what is the difference between the d15a3 head and the d16a1 head? lxndr 12-19-2005, 07:36 PM what is the difference between the d15a3 head and the d16a1 head? The D16A1 is a DOHC motor. The head will fit on a 84-87 EW/D15 motor, but there is some fabrication to get it to work. IMO, it's better to just swap the whole D16A1! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
