my GTI runs well, but the instrument panel will light up like a christmas tree and the engine will cut off, no power for starting, no fuel supply and then turn back on. I have checked and cleaned all the electrical connection I can find, but the problem will not go away. someone told me a bad ground to the computer can cause this. Also the relays are clicking on and off as this happens. It also seems to happen when there are high RPM's. Any advise will help.

Try jiggling & turning the key in the switch when ithappens. The electrical part is prone to failure.
