1998 Ford Windstar SEL with 3.8L.

Just got it back from the dealership. It cost me 78.00 for them to tell me it is going to cost me approx. 805.00 to repair problem.

Under comments: Blend door actuator broken needs a heater case.

Is blend door actuator and heater case two separate items?

Are the overcharging me for the repair?

Anyone going to jump in and give me a hand with this one? If not, please be respectful enough to let me know you dont know, and I am on my own.

Thanks, but I am very frustrated right now. I dont have an extra grand to spend on this repair.

I have a 2001 SE. A couple months ago I wasn't getting any heat. Took it to dealer and diagnosed as broken blend door, you could hear the tell tale clicking noise. I don't have a price because it was under extended warranty. I asked how much it would have cost and tech said around $450. Your $800 seems high.

the $450 price is wrong, it is around $800
you have to take the dash board completly out of the van and the a/c needs to be evac and charged to get the heater box out. it is a lengthy repair. the labor is around 8 hours. your blend door is the part that is broken, it is part of the heater box.

Hmm, I guess that one repair paid for the extended warranty. With the lock actuator replacement I'm ahead now.

I just found out my wifes van is a 1999 NOT 1998 model!!

I think I read somewhere it might be easier to get to the blend door on a 1999 model. Maybe I am dreaming. My life is a blurrrrrrrrrrr.

Thanks for the replies anyways.

I have a 99 and i think you still have to take everything out. Just be sure if they do to check all of the options on the dash because my dealer has a tendency to not hook some stuff up they you have to pay them to fix their mistake.

Guys! I found a kit that repairs the broken blend door problem with no dash removal and takes about an hour. The kit is called the HeaterTreater and they have installation videos on youtube. check it out: www.heatertreater.net
