1999 Volkswagen Beetle problem - CE light Ash Shah 09-18-2005, 08:04 PM
My daughter has a 1999 Volskswagen Beetle which she brought from FL to NJ. The check engine light is on all the time. Had it reset but came on again yesterday. The diagnostic codes are as follows: PO172 - System to rich bank1 P0455 - Ecaporative emission control sysytem leak detected (gross Leak) P0302 - Misfire cylinder 2 The car has some mods - intake has been changed from the original flow to one that is mounted directly. It looks like a large filter connected to the hose. The exhaust has been modified from the back of the catalic converter to the tail muffler - sports with a loud noise. There is no inspection on cars in FL. Recently the car went through a basic service. The codes above were cleared but after driving for a while the CE light is on again and the engine started to run rough. Almost slow to pickup speed. Let it cool down overnight and the engine seems smooth again but CE light still on. Local mecahnic indicates expensive fix and no guarantee if it will resolev the problem. Any suggested fixes. Is it worth fixing? veedubmechanic 09-19-2005, 11:54 PM Check your vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator for cracking. Use a can of seafoam or heavy duty injector cleaner in a 1/2 tank of gas, I bet the injectors are clogged. Check the gas cap for looseness. fozzy18 10-06-2005, 02:14 AM Check your vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator for cracking. From what you are saying it looks like i could be your cat converter my was doing the same but i just put aside BIG mistake it screwed my o2 sensor, coil pack. try the seafoam, you can buy it your local autozone its about 6 dlls a can but follow the dirr. and put the seafoam though your vac. line if it does not work, just drive your car for a while and look under the car, and see if the cat converter is red hot if it is. there your problem fozzy18 10-06-2005, 02:17 AM My daughter has a 1999 Volskswagen Beetle which she brought from FL to NJ.
