Clutch Adjustment

I recently got a 2003 Cavalier coupe (base model). It is a manual transmission. I have never had as much trouble with a manual transmission as I have with this Cavalier. How can I adjust it?

The problem that I am having is that it seems there is only about 1 - 2 inches of play between the clutch being enganged and not be engaged. With the pedal pressed to the floor, I bring the pedal up almost all the way out before it will start to engange and then there is the 1 - 2 inches and then all the way out and i am in gear and moving. I do nothing but make teh car jerk back and forth when I am starting out in 1st gear and 2nd gear. 3rd gear through 5th is not a problem.

I just need to to get more play in the clutch rather than the 1 - 2 inches that it has. I have driven several manuals and I have never had this problem before (accepted when i was learning at age 12).

Hydraulic clutches auto adjust themselves. Essentially when the clutch catch is high up, you need a new clutch. My Cavalier is doing that, and while I like that small area where it catches, it needs a new clutch.

yea, you probably need a new clutch. My engagement point is about 2 inches off the floor.

also you could have a small leak in the internal slave. Make sure your fluid is to the top, and you could try to bleed it. If its had an air pocket in it and it could cause issues shifiting. Cheap, and easy try. Otherwise the clutch kit is pricey.
