Installing Airbags

I've got a 1998 Sebring Convertible. My wife recently had a little fender bender and set off the airbags. The accident was so slight that the only other damage is a small crack in the front license plate. Well, that and the passenger's airbag nearly blew out the windshield!

Anyways... to get Chrysler to install airbags is extrordinarily expensive so I am looking into doint this myself. Although not automotive, I've been a mechanic for 20+ years so I know how to handle a wrench. I've already got the old airbags out and it just doesn't seem like a big deal to take care of.

What I'm wondering is if there's some kind of hidden little trick or something that I need to be aware of to do the instalation properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I rebuild wrecked vehicles. It is a pretty simple task to install airbags. You need to disconnect the battery before you plug the wires up.You do not have to, but I always do just in case. You put the airbags in the same way you took them out. After you get them bolted and the wires plugged up, hook your battery back up and start your car and see if your airbag light is on. If it is not on then you are done. If the light is on you will need to replace the airbag module. You can contact your dealer it might be possible that they can just reset the module. The dealership usually charges around $50.00 to do this if it can be reset on your car. If you have to replace, your dealer can tell you the location of the module at no charge. You can probably find the airbags and module on ebay pretty resonable,or check your local salvage yard.

Thanks man.... I sure do appreciate the info! I just wanted to be sure that I wouldn't put the airbags in, turn the key and have them go off again for some reason. Sounds pretty simple and it looks like just what I need is on Ebay right now.

Thanks again for your help!
