steering position sensor?

I did a search but none of the other symtoms were described in a manner that sounds like mine. So here is my description:

At 30-40mph and going around a curve in the road my steering wheel jerks in the direction of the turn. for example, if I'm turning right the steering wheel staps farther to the right. Its like there is tension on the steering wheel the then the tension goes away so my hands go farther to the right. Is this caused by the Steering position sensor?

I've replace an idler arm that seemed to have excessive play. But that didn't rix the problem. Thanks.

To me that would be a strong indicator that the sensor is malfuntioning.I was getting that sharp jerk when turning with my suburban and once changed, problem disappeared.

Mine is doing the same thing. Mind if I ask how much it cost or how to do it?

I have a 1999 suburban that is doing the same thing. Wondering if this is a problem that should be investigated? It is quite scary when I am in a curve to lose steering tension and it feels like I'm going to jetison into oncoming traffic. I am happy to find this post though, as maybe something can be done about this now.

Part costs about $60 from the dealer. It's not a difficult job to do yourself, and yes, the symptoms do point to the steering position sensor.
