Windstar Options & Keyless Entry

I have had my 98 Windstar for a month now. I am wondering if there is anyway to find out what options it came with. The dealer I bought it from swore up and down that it had keyless entry, but it didn't come with a key fob. Also, how can I tell if I have the anti-theft system.
I have even gone to the local Ford dealer and tried to get them to look up the VIN# in their system, nothing much showed up other than normal specs.
They told me to turn the key on and off 5 times and I have read elsewhere 8 and 10. None of this has made the power locks reset. I also read in another thread one time to take the glove box out (let it down to the floorboard) and short out some wires with a screw driver and the locks will reset. I went outside immediately and took the glove box down and I can't figure out: 1. Which wires go to the power locks 2. How do I short them out with a screwdriver?
Any information would be terrific.
Thankyou!

I don't know about all that. If I were you, I would go on ebay, buy a 'clicker' for your make and model (make sure it's one with instructions) and try it. If it works, great. If not, then you'll have your answer. You can get them for about $10 bucks!

The anti theft system should (at least it does on my 99) blink "Theft" in red when the auto is parked.

I think you need a programmed remote alow you to program a second remote. If not you need the dealer (and some cash) to get them to do it. If you bought it from a Ford dealer you might be able into talking them into programming you one (if you supply it).

In the owner's manual is the procedure to program a 2nd remote if you have a working one. I can't remember the procedure (but 8 on/offs seems familiar) The the doors might lock and unlock without a programmed remote during the proceudre so you may be able to tell if the van is so equipped.

If you do not have an owner's manual then search this site. Someone posted a link couple a of days ago, to download a manual.

Even if I buy a new remote (they are cheap on Ebay) I will stil have to find out how to let the locks reset as that is how you program in the new key fob. I thought what you did at first myself :o)

You do not reset it. What you need is a working remote. You switch the ignition on and off 8 times (or something like that) and then the doors lock and unlock. You then press any button on a working programmed (for that car) remote. The locks should cycle. You then press any button on a new remote and the locks cycle. You have now programmed the 2nd. (Procedure is from memory)

If you do not have a programmed remote (which it sounds like you do not have one) you need to have the dealer programme the first one.

It depends which 98 model you have. The early 98 models used the old style remote. The later 98 models used the newer style remote and programming is different between the 2.
