OnStar Conversion

I'm not payin a damn cent; if my '04 Maxx isn't digitial-ready, all the more reason for me to get that Hyundai Sonata and leave ONStar behind. GM can pay ME to switch. After all, I AM the subscriber at $16/mo. And throw in a free oil & filer to get me to do it.

Constant dumb asses.

Man what are you talking about? Is this a response to a prior thread?

Ok you got my attention. LOL but lost me with the digital ready on-star. Are all current on-stars going to be obsolete?

Alright I 'll bite again... Are you refereing to being able to get your Verizon line added to the OnStar as this requires it to be digital? Or what are you talking about?

Sheesh, mind readers on board. Yes, I'm having my "period". And bitchin about the Verizon/OnStar conversion. I'll get over it, in time. And pay through the nose.

I was reading posts over in Edmund's, and that's what got me started.

I really DO like OnStar, BTW.

Just wanted to let those of you with OnStar (post-delivery date of 4/04, according to GMs guidelines) know about a neat new feature that GM added this week (for free), and that I signed up for already. It's called Remote On-Board Diagnostics (or something similar). Once a month, OnStar contacts your vehicle and gets a mileage reading, status of oil life remaining, brakes, etc. and then e-mails you with the results and any service reminders. Neat. (You always could get an immediate reading if, say, the Check Engine light illuminated, but this is something on top of that).

I haven't received the confirmation back from them yet, which they were supposed to do within 48 hours. Maybe a ton of folks signed up and they're swamped. I'm also curious if they'll scare the living daylights out of me if the system announces that it's doing this while I'm driving along!!

Yes I got first such message from OnStar this week - although I forgot that I had signed up on vehicle I drive :)

Now I am interested in what kind of stuff it will tell me (really, Harry, I don't know).

I am going to sign up wife's G6 now as well.

According to GM, this new service is available on all vehicles delivered after 4/21/04. They must mean build date. My Maxx was built on 4/27/04; talk about cutting it close. But, I'm leery. Maybe that's why OnStar hasn't e-mailed me yet.

BTW, the reason for this whole thread is to complain about the digital conversion; not the Verizon plan (which I intend to sign up for early next year when I return to work).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most pre-'06 vehicles with OnStar will need an equipment upgrade to continue receiving the service after February 2008, because those vehicles have only an analog system. And THAT'S my beef. Cripey, most analog cell phones were obsolete way before my vehicle was built. And that's piss poor performance on GMs part. And no, I'm not paying a damn cent for an upgrade. If GM wants my OnStar business after 2/08 (assuming I still have the current vehicle, which is a 50/50 proposition), they can pay for the equipment upgrade.

Sorry this wasn't clear; I was under the weather last weekend. I was reading a thread in Edmund's about this very subject that I knew about before and it was grating on my nerves, so the issue finally boiled over with me.....

Well, I received my first OnStar Diagnostics Report today (all "No Issues Found", thank goodness). I have to say I'm impressed. They must have run the check yesterday (I can tell from the mileage reading), and I never knew they were doing it.

OnStar is one of the things that just might keep me in a GM vehicle for a long time.
