What a blown head gasket looks like

This is my #4 cylinder, the backmost one on the drivers side. The areas circled in green are where the paper-whatever it is covering on the factory gasket has been torn off and gone somewhere. The entire red area is peeled off on the bottom. Plus it's bubbled up and ready to peel off roughly half way around the cylinder.

This is the head from that side, notice the white steamed appearance from coolant getting burned up

Luckily nothing is warped. I have a set of .027' Cometic gaskets to go in this time, slightly thicker than the factory ones (.020') which will drop the compression ratio by 0.1-0.2 which is no good, but they're durable enough that I shouldn't ever have to worry about blowing them again, so it's worth it. Plus I'm port matching the intake and exhaust manifolds and getting a Delta stage 2 cam grind while I'm in there. A guy with similar mods is making about 220 hp, so roughly WRX power levels, but keep in mind this is N/A so it's torquier and lag-free  plus I have a 50 shot of nitrous to add to that, so I should be looking at power levels around the first STi's that had to get the ECU reprogram and lost about 20 hp.
