I have a 2000 Windstar with AM/FM/Cassette/CD(single) radio. Over the last year I have gradually lost my ability to pick up AM stations (I can't get clear reception from the local 50K Watt station most of the time) Recentlythe tone on FM has started to get "fuzzy". My first thought was an antenna ground problem but continuity test do not bear that out.
At this point I am at a loss for other solutions

They haven't erected a new building between your car and the transmitter have they? Just kidding.
I would ensure that the plug into the reciever is not loose. The tuner in the radio could be drifting too.
Personally I have never been too impressed with the factory antenna. My 99 has it on the rear corner window. I live in a big city with about stations to fill most AM and FM frequencies and I don't think any come in that well. These are from transmitters in the CN tower (over 1800 feet) so the signals are strong.
