Hi, new to the site, so I'm sure this question has been asked previously.

But I need to change the fuel filter on my 2000 4Runner. Can someone tell me where its located? I looked in the usual passenger side location, with no luck. Anything special I need to do when replacing it?

And the fuel filter I bought has no bracket like some I've seen on the internet. Do I need one with the bracket or without?

Thanks in advace for any help.

Under the driver door, behind a fiberglass shield by the frame rail. Not sure about the bracket.

Take off the shield and unbolt the bracket holding the filter, from the chassis. if the bracket can be removed from the filter (if it's movable), then you don't need a bracket.

Be sure you actually need a filter. Normally, they don't need to be changed. Check the discussion on fuel filter replacment in the Camry FAQ thread for general hints and cautions.

Be sure to depressurize the fuel line before changing the filter.!!

Thanks for the replies. I changed the fuel filter last weekend.
The fiberglass shield was fastened to the vehicle with 3 bolts(soft steel!). One of them rounded off and I could not get it off. So I had to change the filter with it left on.
The filter came off and went back on pretty easy. Probably only 1/2 or 3/4 cup of gas came out, so that was nice. Not too messy considering the shield was still on.
Then I had to put the bolt back in the filter clamp. I couldn't get it back in because the bolt is too short. So I went and got a longer bolt and that worked much better.
